As I was praying and meditating this morning (If I wrote that it was early this morning would you think me more spiritual? Or take what I write more seriously?) the Lord stirred me to write what is to follow. But point at issue is that exactly contained in the first sentence, your perception.
What is truth? How do you (I speak to you, yourself, those who read this) acquire truth? What is understanding? How do you acquire understanding? What motivates you to consider or seek more than the obvious? The short answer is Jesus is truth, His word is truth. Unfortunately you are not always able to bear the truth (just as the apostles) because of many reasons. Emotions, mindset, previous partial or incorrect understandings, traditions and the like all play apart in what we are able to take to heart or allow to be part of us. God in His wisdom made a way for us to grow in the knowledge of truth and understanding (everyone just said yes I'm grateful that I received it) but in actual truth few receive it.
When you read the words "ears to hear" we think that because we are stirred and we know something is coming we have ears to hear, and in a way you may. Many people in the world, though, believe something is happening, do they have "ears to hear"? They are often motivated by fear or self preservation. Some have just enough knowledge of the Word to prepare for the worst scenario physically but spiritually are as dead as a doornail.
The whole council of God, all that He offers, is the only way to have ears to hear. Yesterday I compiled, "The Law of the Spirit". Some may think, Ho Hum, been there, done that, never truly understanding what they just read, or skipped, because they view it in the light of their own understanding. These days are precious to those who truly have understanding. Jesus Himself is perfecting His sheep (we all said, Amen, but what did that mean?). In these days of one hour dry cleaning, drive through fast food, the 64oz Big Gulp, all you can eat vomitoriums, movie on demand, 10 second sound bytes, drug for this pill for that, instant gratification life style we all live in, Gods ways, in our minds seem to run the same, GOT IT, DONE. Got a problem, go online, read a book. Didn't work? Read the sequel, use a different search engine. Still have a problem? Get professional help. It doesn't matter that the answer is in the Word, it takes to long, then it doesn't work, Hhmmm. God said it works, why don't we get it (yesterday). Hardness of heart, slow to believe and little faith all play a part in our understanding, amazingly, just like the apostles.
When you read; when he, "the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come", but view it in the light of, "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth" we take into our own hand that which should be Gods. We decide in the light of all our attitudes, life style, and previous experience what it means. It's easier because in the first place we would have to trust or have faith in God speaking to us rather than what we learned in the third grade. But if we believed like the Bereans; Paul and Silas (went) by night to Berea, who went into the synagogue of the Jews, and they (the Bereans) received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so. The fine difference is; readiness of mind, receiving the word, then proving by scripture. Today though, the Bereans are viewed as the study to show types not hear by the Spirit type. But if you view today's Christians as; Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh? And; Nevertheless when the Son of man comes, shall he find faith on the earth? Then there is no conflict.
In the light of understanding; Come out of her, my people, that you be not partakers of her sins, and that you receive not of her plagues. And again; He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches. What organization can hear? What fellowship has true faith? Who actually having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, as he hath brought forth this, which you now see and hear. How do these churches stack up:
B. No room for the Holy Spirit, all scholarly thought.
C. Truth conflicts with traditions of being first and infallible, seat of Satan.
E. One foot in one foot out, lets please everyone.
F. I Hardness of heart.
F. II Measure themselves by themselves.
H. Legalistic, church imposed holiness.
M. I. Reputation of being alive, but no moving Spirit.
M. II. Cult at best.
O. Seat of Satan II.
P. A little non-traditional tradition of man.
P. II Balaam syndrome.
N. Lots of spirits, all wrong, false prophets.
Your choices are few and far between, as far as churches go, if you know and love truth. If you don't love truth what difference does it make, go where you like, be comfortable. These are the days of working out your own salvation with fear and trembling. But if the anointing (Holy Spirit) which you have received of God (Baptism of the Holy Spirit) abides in you, and you need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teaches you all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as the Holy Spirit has taught you, you shall abide in the Holy Spirit. Now, children of God, abide in him; that, when Jesus shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming.

That is food for thought, Dave and I enjoyed reading it, especially after your previous post on the the Law of the Spirit. The choices of church are certainly few and far between. I have experienced several different churches over the years, and in the end we do have to work out our own salvation with fear and trembling...I have found that the Lord has always met my needs, taught me from His Word, and given me precious fellowship outside of these churches, and for that I am thankful.
True, Dave.
It all boils down to "let God's word be true and every man be a liar."
If we do not hold fast to this scripture and believe it to be true, letting the Spirit of God bare witness in our spirit of the truth regardless of what we have been taught, than we cannot be led into all truth.
As we discussed, there is only one Truth. You either accept the whole truth (everything the word of God says, written and spoken) or you are believing a lie. Period.
God give us ears to hear,
Ryan
