The word Pharisees comes from the Hebrew , meaning "separated" , that is, one who is separated for a life of purity.
Luke 11:42 But woe unto you, Pharisees! for ye tithe mint and rue and all manner of herbs, and pass over judgment and the love of God: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone. (A Pharisee is careful about lawful things but won’t judge what he thinks, this is good, that is bad, past the point of basics, people don’t know where he really stands, other than the letter of the scripture ) 43 Woe unto you, Pharisees! for ye love the uppermost seats in the synagogues, and greetings in the markets. (A Pharisee loves to be hailed, acknowledged or considered a good Christian, often flowery in speach and likes to impress with his own righteousness.) 44 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are as graves which appear not, and the men that walk over them are not aware of them. (Mosaic Law, touching that which is dead makes a person unclean to God, a Pharisee is as a dead person spiritually, but doesn’t appear to be, so men don’t know that they who associate with the Pharisee have touched what is dead, what he preaches leads to death.) 45 Then answered one of the lawyers, and said unto him, Master, thus saying thou reproachest us also. (A Pharisee cannot believe that God through the Holy Spirit could include them in error, their perceived understanding and approval by their peers does not allow them to be corrected, they are uncorrectable.) 46 And he said, Woe unto you also, ye lawyers! for ye lade men with burdens grievous to be borne, and ye yourselves touch not the burdens with one of your fingers. (Some Pharisees will say or agree the scriptural concept of, “Life in the Spirit”, but haven’t ever sought the Life in the Spirit described in the Bible themselves, they are satisfied with their social position. They teach for doctrine fables of men, they love life apart from the Holy Spirit.)) 47 Woe unto you! for ye build the sepulchres of the prophets, and your fathers killed them. (Pharisees outwardly proclaim that they hold the words and works of the apostles in high esteem, yet when pressed hold to the old covenant of the Law, salvation by works.)
48 Truly ye bear witness that ye allow the deeds of your fathers: for they indeed killed them, and ye build their sepulchres. (The fathers of the Pharisees gave no belief or faith to the Life and Promise that God sent through the Comforter, but Pharisees are careful to hold to doctrines of their fathers, doctrines of legalism and the Old Testament, and in speech lift up the Word, but in truth, by lack of understanding, deny what is wr itten about faith. ) 49 Therefore also said the wisdom of God, I will send them prophets and apostles, and some of them they shall slay and persecute: (God sends the truth by His servants, but any one who quotes scripture apart from your own understanding, even though it’s true, Pharisees will kill, speak against, disavow or negate truth, the thought of themselves being guilty brings anger and resentment against the message bearer, never even cosidering the message.) 50 That the blood of all the prophets, which was shed from the foundation of the world, may be required of this generation; (Pharisees think that they will not be held accountable because of their misguided, good intensions, they cannot imagine what they have done.) 51 From the blood of Abel unto the blood of Zacharias which perished between the altar and the temple: verily I say unto you, It shall be required of this generation. (If all people do not accept the full Word of God to the understanding that the Spirit of Truth gives, they will be held accountable for themselves and all those they have affected, blind leading the blind.) 52 Woe unto you, lawyers! for ye have taken away the key of knowledge: ye entered not in yourselves, and them that were entering in ye hindered. (Woe to those Pharisees who hinder the spiritually hungry and thirsty, taking away the very key to knowledge and will not enter themselves. They disavow the Holy Spirit in fact or in belittling. The saddest part is they and all they have hindered will never know all that Jesus did for them, the Promise of the Father.) 53 And as he (Jesus) said these things unto them, the scribes and the Pharisees began to urge him vehemently, and to provoke him to speak of many things: (In their self righteous anger they tried to cause Jesus, or his servants to speak an error so they could discredit Him and His Words as they do, and their fathers have done, as they often will try to do to you.)
Modern day Pharisee is one who is so pure in his own understanding and lawfulness that God>Jesus>Holy Spirit is not recognizable or acceptable, though he will say he believes. He hinders those who would enter Life in the Spirit. He, by holding to untrue teachings of his fathers, takes away the very key to knowledge. The Pharisee cannot conceive the fact that he himself does not know the one he proclaims to love. The Pharisee will say that scriptures like this in Luke does not mean what it says, denying the Gift of the Holy Spirit. Maybe the Pharisee would say, “According to this or that father it means salvation”, taking away the key to knowledge.
Luke 11:9 And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. 10For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. 11If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent? 12Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? 13If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?
Finally brothers, in working out our own salvation with fear and trembling, if we have built on another mans foundation, doctrine, accepting for truth what was laid, without asking the Father in heaven to give the Holy Spirit, what he have built on is uncertain ground.
John 16:1 These things have I spoken unto you, that ye should not be offended. 2They (the Pharisees) shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service. 3And these things will they do unto you, because they have not known the Father, nor me. 4But these things have I told you, that when the time shall come, ye may remember that I told you of them. And these things I said not unto you at the beginning, because I was with you. 5But now I go my way to him that sent me; and none of you asketh me, Whither goest thou? 6But because I have said these things unto you, sorrow hath filled your heart. 7Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. 8And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: 9Of sin, because they believe not on me; 10Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more; 11Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged. 12I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. 13Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. 14He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you. 15All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you.
John 7:16 Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me.
17If any man will do his will (the Fathers), he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself.
Mark 3:35 For whosoever shall do the will of God, the same is my brother, and my sister, and mother.
2 Corinthians 6:17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing (works of the flesh) ; and I will receive you. 18And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.
Matthew 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. 25And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. 26And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: 27And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.
Galatians 3:11 But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith.
2 Timothy 4:1 I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom; 2Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine. 3For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; 4And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
There’s a big, big storm coming, will your doctrine allow you to stand?

Good understanding, Dave.
The scripture that says, "they praise me with their lips but their heart is far from me" comes to mind. We cannot merely say that we love God or desire to do His will, but rather live a life that, everyday, shows that we do these things. It is written that it will be known of us, simply, that we love God. This means loving the Lord with all of our heart, mind and strength. Nothing less.
Let God's word be true, and every man be a liar.
God bless,
Ryan
